Erik Rostad
About
“A system is defined as a group of harmoniously interacting and interdependent elements comprised as a uniform whole. Similarly, my recent paintings explore a reductive aesthetic that highlights a process of mindful and orderly synergy. Like a single piece of fabric, each painting is comprised of a multitude of smaller threads unified as one. After being hand-painted, trimmed, and tactfully positioned, each layer of string is laminated by a coat of resin. Much like the passing seconds, these previous layers are suspended, never to be touched again, yet providing the future layers with a foundation. Throughout this process, time finds a record within the materials while I seek balance both inwardly and in the work. This rhythm continues until an order is achieved. "
Inspired by his earlier studies in philosophy and science, Erik’s work addresses language, aesthetics, and the exploration of the unifying thread within human experiences. His proficiency as a sculptor, painter, and photographer allows his artistic voice to find expression in a wide range of mediums.
